Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot has tipped Portuguese compatriot and namesake Diogo Costa for big, big things – amid reports that Man Utd are eyeing the Porto goalkeeper as a replacement for David de Gea.

David De Gea has made some costly mistakes in recent weeks, which has put Manchester United‘s Champions League qualification hopes in jeopardy. Despite this, the club is reportedly interested in extending his stay at Old Trafford. However, Ajax has been linked with a potential €80m move for Porto’s goalkeeper Diogo Costa, which would equal the highest fee ever paid for a goalkeeper (previously paid by Chelsea for Kepa Arrizabalaga from Athletic Bilbao).

Manchester United’s left-back, Dalot, has expressed his high regard for Costa, stating that they grew up together and they have a great relationship. Dalot believes that Costa has the potential to become world-class and hopes that he will continue to succeed, whether it be at Porto or another big club in Europe.

Costa has been Porto’s number one for the last two seasons

Diogo done good

Diogo Costa started his career in Porto’s youth ranks and made his first-team debut shortly after turning 20 years old. He has already played in 100 matches for the 30-time Portuguese champions, who are currently trailing Primeira leaders Benfica by four points with four games remaining as they strive to retain their title.

Costa established himself as Portugal’s number one goalkeeper last year, featuring in all five of his country’s matches en route to the quarter-finals of the World Cup. His impressive performances have caught the attention of several top European clubs, including Ajax, who are reportedly considering an €80m move for the talented shot-stopper.
